During the first year of the course, the students have learnt a range of skills to form the foundation of their knowledge in Visual Communication. These have included; camera techniques, composition and layout, Photoshop, video editing, typography, monoprinting, press printing and lino cutting, exploring topics of movement, shape, texture and repeat patterns. For the End of Year Project, the students were asked to produce a magazine that responded in some way to their notion of ‘The World Around Me’. As lockdown came into force this became the project in itself for some students, resulting in some really interesting, topical narratives, that can be seen in the magazines they produced. In addition to those outcomes, other students covered topics such as politics, landscape, architecture, and emotions showing their aware connection to the world around them. I hope that you are as impressed as I am with the quality of work they were able to produce in such difficult circumstances.
